A technique for determining the optimum mix of logistics service providers of a make-to-order supply chain by formulating and solving a constrained nonlinear cost optimization problem

In this paper, a technique has been developed to determine the optimum mix of logistic service providers of a make-to-order (MTO) supply chain. A serial MTO supply chain with different stages/ processes has been considered. For each stage different logistic service providers with different mean processing lead times, but same lead time variances are available. A realistic assumption that for each stage, the logistic service provider who charges more for his service consumes less processing lead time and vice-versa has been made in our study. Thus for each stage, for each service provider, a combination of cost and mean processing lead time is available. Using these combinations, for each stage, a polynomial curve, expressing cost of that stage as a function of mean processing lead time is fit. Cumulating all such expressions of cost for the different stages along with incorporation of suitable constraints arising out of timely delivery, results in the formulation of a constrained nonlinear cost optimization problem. On solving the problem using mathematica, optimum processing lead time for each stage is obtained. Using these optimum processing lead times and by employing a simple technique the optimum logistic service provider mix of the supply chain along with the corresponding total cost of processing is determined. Finally to examine the effect of changes in different parameters on the optimum total processing cost of the supply chain, sensitivity analysis has been carried out graphically

AbstractWe call a subspace Y of a Banach space X a DBR subspace if its unit ball By admits farthest points from a dense set of points of X. In this paper, we study DBR subspaces of C(K). In the process, we study boundaries, in particular, the Choquet boundary of any general subspace of C(K). An infinite compact Hausdorff space K has no isolated point if and only if any finite co-dimensional subspace, in particular, any hyperplane is DBR in C(K). As a consequence, we show that a Banach space X is reflexive if and only if X is a DBR subspace of any superspace. As applications, we prove that any M-ideal or any closed *-subalgebra of C(K) is a DBR subspace of C(K). It follows that C(K) is ball remotal in C(K)**

Searching for relativistic axions in the sky

Relativistic axions produced in decays of O(107102{\mathcal O}(10^{-7}-10^{-2} eV)\text{eV}) dark matter (DM) partially convert to photons after traversing the galactic magnetic field, giving rise to a signal observable by the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope. We show that for axions lighter than a few ×\times 101310^{-13} eV a 100\,h SKA observation of the local dwarf galaxy Seg I would probe parameter space not constrained by stellar cooling and cosmological observations, with sensitivity several orders of magnitude better than the planned dedicated axion dark matter search experiments. We quantify the uncertainties in the SKA sensitivity projections due to two effects that enhance the photon flux: the presence of turbulent magnetic fields inside the galaxy, and the Bose enhancement of the DM decays to axions, where the latter, in particular, warrants further study.Comment: 24 pages, 12 figure

Defect Detection in Delaminated Glass-Fibre/Epoxy Composite Plates Using Local Defect Resonance Based Vibro-Thermography Technique

In the present scenario, composites are widely used for various applications in the field of aerospace, automobile, marine, sports, construction and electrical industries. The need of damage inspection for these composite structures has been of great importance. Complicated defects like delaminations present in the composite laminates can be detected effectively using nonlinear acoustic wave spectroscopy (NAWS). One of the NAWS techniques of detecting the delamination is based on intensification of vibration amplitudes at the delamination location, known as local defect resonance (LDR) technique. In this chapter, a numerical investigation for detecting delamination in glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite based on vibrothermography technique will be discussed. A single periodic LDR frequency excitation is used to excite the GFRP plate, resulting in a local temperature rise at delamination region due to frictional heating at the damage interface. An explicit dynamic temperature displacement analysis will be carried out for a specific time period of LDR excitation. Subsequently, a heat transfer analysis will be performed to observe the temperature difference at top surface of the delaminated GFRP plate. Thus a numerical investigation will be carried out based on LDR excitation for high contrast imaging of delamination in composite materials using vibro-thermography

With technological transformations and advancements in the field of Artificial Intelligence and its pervasive infiltration into multifarious facets of human existence, there has been a radical reconceptualization of technological intervention and human agency fostering epistemological modifications in the domain of education. Triggered by the gradual evolution of Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 and the envisioned prospects of Web 4.0, higher education institutions worldwide have discerned the pressing need for pedagogical transformation to cater to the imperatives of a perpetually evolving world. In the Indian context, the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a curricular framework formulated by the Government of India for all levels of education, has underscored the significance of interdisciplinary curricula, harnessing technological innovations to promote activity-based learning driven by constructivist principles..

Assessment of Spatio-Temporal Variations in PM\u3csub\u3e2.5\u3c/sub\u3e and Associated Long-Range Air Mass Transport and Mortality in South Asia

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is associated with adverse impacts on ambient air quality and human mortality; the situation is especially dire in developing countries experiencing rapid industrialization and urban development. This study assessed the spatio-temporal variations of PM2.5 and its health impacts in the South Asian region. Both satellite and station-based data were used to monitor the variations in PM2.5 over time. Additionally, mortality data associated with ambient particulate matter were used to depict the overall impacts of air pollution in this region. We applied the Mann–Kendall and Sen’s slope trend analysis tool to investigate the trend of PM2.5. At the same time, clustering of backward trajectories was used for identifying the long-range air mass transport. The results revealed that the mean annual PM2.5 mass concentration was the highest (46.72 µg/m3) in Bangladesh among the South Asian countries during 1998–2019, exceeding the national ambient air quality standards of Bangladesh (i.e., 15 µg/m3) and WHO (10 µg/m3), while lower PM2.5 was observed in the Maldives and Sri Lanka (5.35 µg/m3 and 8.69 µg/m3, respectively) compared with the WHO standard. The trend analysis during 1998–2019 suggested that all South Asian countries except the Maldives experienced an increasing trend (p \u3c 0.05) of PM2.5. The study showed that among the major cities, the mean annual PM2.5 value was the highest in New Delhi (110 µg/m3), followed by Dhaka (85 µg/m3). Regarding seasonal variation, the highest PM2.5 was found during the pre-monsoon season in all cities. The findings of this research would help the concerned governments of South Asian countries to take steps toward improving air quality through policy interventions or reforms. Moreover, the results would provide future research directions for studying the trend and transport of atmospheric PM2.5 in other regions
